Boys are Easier…

…to send off to Prom, that is! The boys, we throw them in a tuxedo…that’s is. Sure, we can instruct them to be a gentleman, open the doors, treat them like a lady, ask them if they have enough money, etc., but then we send them off and trust that we’ve taught them well.

But when it’s your daughter….it’s another story! It’ takes weeks of preparation! There’s shopping for the dress; then the shoes; then accessories…and the list goes on and on.

Until it’s finally the day…and in it, there are not one, two, or even three trips to Sally’s…but FOUR! Half a bottle of fingernail polish is used before the nails are just right. Then there’s the bobby pins, glue gun to make the hairpiece, make-up for “smokey eyes” and so much more!

And when you’re all done…you remember the dress has to go over the head….yeah, that was fun!

And the finished product?

And then, there’s that smile!

And a moment with her father…

And her oldest, very protective brother…

Big brother on the front porch with a Samurai Sword...waiting to greet her lucky Prom Date!

And finally, we’re about done with pictures…..

And they’re off!

Cool Mom Award

I am pretty sure I should get the “Cool Mom Award.”

Bb00 wanted to get her nose pierced. For those of you who don’t know me well; let me share one thing.

I

HATE

NEEDLES

With a passion.

I avoided epidurals and had my babies natural just to AVOID that GIANT NEEDLE in my back.

I do NOT like needles.

Yuk.

So, her two older brother’s took her so I wouldn’t have to go.

Nope.

Because her older brother had to have proof of guardianship.

On the one hand, I’m glad to know kids can’t just walk in and get their bodies pierced without a parent’s consent.

On the other hand….that meant I had to go in.

Where there are NEEDLES!

Her brother’s conned me into going one night. And so, she got her nose pierced.

Cool Mom Award, right?

But wait…it get’s better!

The ring fell out when she was showering.

So, we had to purchase another one or let it close up.

Did I mention I hate needles? And that the needle they put through her nose was BIG?

She tried for two hours to get the ring back in her nose.

I finally admitted it…the only way it was going back in was if I did it.

So, the Smart One shined his flashlight in her nose while I pushed it back through.

She now has a pretty little blue jewel glittering her nose.

And me?

Just waiting for that cool mom award!

Camel Spiders

I’ve seen Bboo freak a little lately. I’m getting to know the *look.* Some of you may recall my very first ever blog. I was trying to figure out what to write about and then it happened; the scream…and My First Post!

Fourth of July, the Twin and the Talented One found a camel spider. They were deeply saddened when it was hit by a car. Bboo was thrilled, I’m sure, as they made sure to bring it over and show it off.

Last week, the Smart One, Bboo and the Twin came to help with some labor at my work. She walked in, gave the *look* and started yelling, “Kill it!”

Yup, another camel spider.

Last night, it showed up again. She was walking out the front door and quickly backed her way back into the house. Once again, the *look* and refusal to step outside the door.

I’ve heard she is pretty. I think the camel spiders, all spiders, must know it. That’s why they keep coming after her.

A Special “Thank You” from Bboo

Bboo made a special someone a special thank you for hosting her Sweet 16.

I think she’s very talented, don’t you? I’m pretty sure our special friend thought so, too.

Thank you, special friend, for making my daughter feel so special!

Sleeplessness

It’s four in the morning and sleep escapes me, so what am I do to?

Why, share my new blog page, of course! I spent this past weekend in bed with acute bronchitis. I had planned on getting plenty of work done in between coughing fits and dozing, but my work computer failed me. As some of you may know, I don’t do bed well. I don’t do just sitting well, either. I tried watching movies and such, but after a while….

So, my husband set up a domain for me to transfer my blog to WordPress; something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now but never seem to have the time.

I’ve gotten to know WordPress pretty well while administrating the Josh Stevens Foundation website. There are so many things that you can do with it, it can become overwhelming at times!

I still have things to move over from Typepad, but so far so good! I hope you enjoy the changes I’ve made as much as I do! Oh..and now, you can find me at itsavivasthing.com!

In the meantime, enjoy this Wordless Wednesday!
