Isn’t it funny the little quirks that make us so unique?
I say this as I sit here listening to the Smart One sing his favorite song, “I”m my own Grandpa.” (He learned to love this after his grandpa shared it with him. And every time I hear him singing along with it, I have fond memories of my dad and my son. I am reminded of camping and grandpa and the Smart One smiling and giggling together as if they share a secret because of this song.
After that, it goes into Ray Stevens, “Mississippi Squirrel Revival.” He learned to love this one from me…which I learned from my dad.
I admit it, we are a Ray Stevens giggling family. I still laugh at “Margaret” and “The Streak.”
Which then reminds me of more camping as kids and singing songs like, “One Mama Marmoth” and a family favorite,
Last night as I lay on my pillow,
Last night as a lay on my bed,
I stuck both my feet out the window
Next morning my neighbors were dead.
Bring back, Bring back
Bring back my neighbors to me, to me.
Bring back, Bring back
Bring back my neighbors to me.
It’s fun to share childhood memories with my kids, who will in turn share them with theirs.
In the meantime, I picture my dad giggling as he listens to the Smart One sing one more Ray Stevens….or Grandpa song…which I am sure, reminds him of his grandpa.
