Blessed to be Me

Sometimes life just sucks. Especially in a pity party. My husband and I often joke about me being the ultimate optimist and he being the pessimist. Same thing with my bestest friend; I see the good, she sees the bad. We balance each other though.

This month so far has been more suck then not. But as I sit here this morning, I find myself looking back at this week that started off just terrible, and ended on terrible…and feel blessed at the not sucking parts.

We received terrible family news; yet it is amazing how my family will pull it together and be there for one another.

One day this week I managed to make it home before 8 pm. And I was pooped on three times by a stupid bird. And the mulberry tree attacked me. But I got to enjoy some beautiful weather, a child that wouldn’t stop talking, and an insistent dog that couldn’t understand my sole purpose outside was not to rub her head. I also had great zucchini grilled by my sweet husband.

I had an interesting fiasco that turned into a night of adventure after work, searching for a missing phone! It was past ten by the time we found it and got home…but I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time! And I have a deep abiding appreciation for a son who is patient and smart and knows how to get things done…and the “Twin” who will do anything for us without complaining, even if it means running around a school and ending up in the street to find the phone that went missing! I have an even deeper appreciation for a daughter who just hangs in there with her mom and other mom while we take her on yet another adventure that involves her watching out for us!

Friday was the suckiest of them all. I cannot express how wonderful it is to have my children at my workplace to cheer me up when I need it most during the day. And for a patient husband who puts up with my sometimes very long hours and never ever complains.

My week ended on a decent note. I got to see an old friend unexpectedly. I spent an eternity with my bestie setting up her new phone since she killed the old one. And watched a pretty good movie with the Drama Queen.

And today….well, it’s the beginning of a  week of break…one I actually intend to take! Because, my dear friends, Easter is coming! And Easter is my favorite time of the year!

Quotable Quote #18

When did the definition of commitment become,  “Until someone better comes along?”

“Save someone a heart, stay single.”

So very glad that I’m married to a man who loves me and puts up with me even though I’m not the greener grass on the other side. I should make a t-shirt that says,

“I’m not the greener grass and my husband is ok with that!”

Love you, babe!

Laughable Moment #24

We need a "Do Not Disturb" sign for our door. Our door locks, but it won't stay shut if you push it hard enough.

Which kind of defeats the purpose of a lock.

After a long day, Hubby and I were trying to re-group before moving on with the evening activities. The Princess barges in. I tell her, "The door is closed, go out and do not come in my room again without knocking."

She starts to talk.

I sternly tell her to leave. She does; then knocks and we give up and let her in. She wants help memorizing her verses for AWANA tonight. We help.

She leaves; closes the door.

Drama Queen barges in. I firmly tell her to get out. She may not come in without knocking on the door. She talks. I tell her to leave.

She goes out and knocks. I say, "Come in."

She wants help with her verses. We help. She leaves.

Chicken Noodle Butt comes barging in. We order him out because he can't barge in and didn't knock. He leaves. Knocks. Comes in. Says he has the hiccups. I tell him to go drink water.

Another knock. Drama Queen again. More help with verses.

Another knock. Princess again. More verses.

Another knock. Chicken Noodle Butt again. Tattling. Just leave.

Another knock. Drama Queen again. We tell her not to come back until 5:25. She wants to know how long that is. I tell her 25 minutes; shut the door.

We've now forgotten what we were trying to talk about. All I can manage is that my eye hurts. (I somehow poked my eye with a comb this morning and managed to cut it. Yeah, I know; stop laughing.)

Scratching at the door. More scratching at the door. Even more scratching at the door.

At least the dog knows how to knock. We let him in. He's happy and asleep at the foot of the bed. So is hubby, only he's snoring, too.

It's 5:21 and I've got to push "publish" before they come back again in four minutes!

Scary Creatures and Such

It's been one of those days, you know? A sense of humor is really needed at this point and a good laugh even more. Therefore, when we entered church tonight with two big gift bags and asked a friend to watch them for us, I took great delight in her sudden fright! (Hey, that rhymed!) Wondering why she'd be afraid of two simple gift bags, she remarked that she didn't trust me since I had a *critter cage* in my hand.

Oh that.

Well, the simple explanation was that the youth pastor needed an aquarium and so I was bringing in one of ours. She didn't believe me, saying something about how looking at the pics from the Talented One's birthday still scared her.

When we came back, she was still standing a few feet away from the bags, asking if there were reptiles in them. I explained to her that, no, they were just blankets, although one of them did have turtles on it.

Anyway, it was pretty funny in my book.

And then I came home. And as I sat down to relax, I noticed a GIANT BLACK COCKROACH making it's way across the floor towards me. I did what any mother would do and demanded that the Talented One come here immediately.

Apparently he knows the cockroach tone, because he responded that he was not coming over to get a bug. Wrong answer. As his mother, I have the priviledge of using blackmail when it suits me. He came over…with my shoe. And I screamed; because it looked like he was going to scoop the thing up and toss it at me.

I screamed.

He screamed.

We all screamed for ice cream.

Ok, we didn't get any ice cream, but the other kids came running downstairs to see what all the commotion was about. By this time, the giant bug had made it under my footstool, where my feet were no longer resting. The Smart One joined in and helped get the thing.

Then the Talented One teased me for a bit by holding the napkin full of bug guts towards my face.

Yuck!

I hate cockroaches. I really do. Especially the big ones.

Even the little ones.

And to my friend who I had so much fun with tonight. I apologize. Really. I'll try hard not to ever tease you with your fears again.
