Joy of Old Friends

Last night I talked to a friend of ours. We just love them so much and hadn't talked to them in a while. We made the decision for the Drama Queen and I to go over for a visit today as the husband is in congestive heart failure and stuck in bed. We have lost a lot of loved ones in the past 1 1/2 years, so that time has to be special.

As we walked in this morning, he didn't recognize me. He has always recognized me before, so it made me a little sad. Then, his face lit up and he said,

"Hey, I think I've met you before!"

And then he saw the Drama Queen. And his face really lit up. He recognized her!

We visited for a while. Being cooped up in bed for almost three months has really shown me how important it is to visit those who can't get out of the house.

As we were getting ready to leave, I told him I loved him, and he grabbed my arm and said, "You better!" and held on to me for a few more minutes. I told him we'd be back soon and then we left.

I'm so glad that we went today. I'm so glad that the Drama Queen is so willing to love an older generation with all her heart.

That brought me joy.

Mom’s Back!

Slowly, but surely, I am making my way back from this illness that has taken so much of my past few months. On Monday, I slept through Bible study time with the Smart One. That made me sad. On Tuesday, I woke up, went downstairs and made hubby coffee and then asked the Smart One what he wanted for breakfast. I wasn't sure what he'd say, because before my illness, I made him waffle sandwiches most mornings. Hubby said he doesn't want them anymore; he's offered.

Guess what he wanted? You guessed it! His waffle sandwich made by mom! Oh, Joy!

Ah…and it's gluten free, too!

A little egg, a little cheese, a sausage patty, 2 waffles…and a little syrup to top it off!

He ate; I read. We talked.

Looking for the Joy

Ya'll know I look forward to the Just for the Joy of It posts at Good, True and Beautiful on Thursdays. I really do.

And yet, it's been one tough week; and an even tougher day! It's almost seven and I am just now even getting to it. I thought to myself…what has brought me joy this week? And you know what…I'm still wondering! Isn't that sad?

Then I thought to myself, "Oh, I should have saved the *Special Memories* post for this" because that certainly brought joy to me this week!

And my son's music always brings me joy. But I already posted about that!

So, what can I say brings me joy today?

Well, I'm in a rather foul mood. The thought that runs through my head today is not ever having to deal with another state worker again, especially ones that just continue to dig and dig that knife deeper…that would certainly bring me joy!

And then, a light bulb went off! (It was probably the Holy Spirit speaking to me!) I am letting someone else still my joy! And that's just not cool! So, I went in search of some friendly reminders and found these:

John
16:33

"I
have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you
will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

John
15:11

"I
have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be
complete."

Isaiah
51:11

So
the ransomed of the LORD shall return,

And come to Zion with singing,
With everlasting joy on their heads.

 They
shall obtain joy and gladness;

1
Thessalonians 5:16-18

Rejoice
always; pray without ceasing;

in
everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus

Making Progress

I've spent the past few days reading like crazy in preparation for some licensing. May I just say I am soooo happy to have finished and passed all of the tests? AND, I've learned some stuff, too! Hopefully, I'll be able to put it to the test this week!

May I also just say that I am down three doctors now! This means I am now only under the care of two…huge! And I can drive again; although it's not very comfortable if the truth be told!

Oh…and I am finally healing! I have made big people steps this week instead of the baby steps of weeks prior! I've still a long way to go, but I am moving forward!

The Talented One brought home not one, but two amazing grades on tests this week! Big!

B-boo started dance team this week. It's been such a joy to see her doing something she loves again!

Yes, it's been a week with some definite joy!

Best of all….I went to church this week! After 8 weeks, you can bet I was happy to be there again! God is good. 🙂

Realizing What We Have

Every Thursday, "Good, True and Beautiful" hosts Just for the Joy of It. I love this and look forward to posting something that brings me joy each week. There are so many little things that I often speak of; family times & giggles, friendship, etc….

But…

This morning, it was brought to my attention in my prayer and Bible study; what brings me joy is the ability to read His word. To pray for my children, my husband, my church, my friends, those in need. And more.

What brings me joy is knowing that I can trust in Him, no matter what. And knowing that I can go to His word and receive His comfort, His wisdom, His love.

There are many who can't.

There are many who won't.

My joy today, is not only knowing that I can, but actually doing it.
