Looking, when we don’t have to!

It's Just for the Joy of It over at Good, True and Beautiful. Love it!

Except, I'm a working mom now and don't get a lot of pictures and don't have enough time with my family. And that's ok.

But it's forced me to look for joy in new ways.

In the little precious moments like: singing with the Drama Queen on the way to work! We have a few moments of let's talk….while she anxiously waits to turn up the radio and see what fabulous song we'll sing together!

I look foward to the texts from my high schoolers that I know I'll get as soon as they are out of school.

And those moments when I get home from work and seek out the Smart One to find out how his day went.

Then there's the joy in hubby calling to check in with me at work and make sure I'm ok.

And there's always joy in Wednesday and Sunday, when we have our regularly scheduled guests who join us for lunch or dinner.

And of course, my oldest son always makes me smile when he shows up.

I have a the best family and friends.

and that's what brings me joy this week!

Joy of Marriage

I've often said that I love Good, True and Beautiful's "Just for the Joy of It," because it makes me think of something that brought me joy this week. And there are many things I could write about. But mostly, I'll have to say it's my husband. Seriously.

He is a HUGE supporter of whatever I do. He sees more in me than I could ever see; and he has faith and confidence in me when I shutter in my lack of it. I am often time left in awe as I realize he probably truly sees me the way God intended a husband to see his wife. I hope that makes sense.

And he loves me when I am sick.

Or tired.

Grouchy.

and perhaps, even a bit irrational. (But not lately! ha ha!)

This past year, he has been by my side through it all. He was there with me throughout my illness and LENGTHY recovery.

He held me when I cried because I was going back to work full-time. He understood my tears and didn't take it personally.

And he has become a really, really good stay-at-home dad/husband.

Seriously.

He cooks…really, really good meals. And he cooks for my friends, too!

He cleans. Much better than, me, I might add.

He does laundry.

He runs errands.

He checks on me to see if I need him to do anything.

He loves me and cherishes me.

And that, my friends, is what has brought me the most joy this week!

Quotable Quote #13

B-boo cracks me up! She has some serious issues when it comes to people not walking straight. It's hysterical to walk with her in a group of people because it drives her crazy to have people walking crooked in front of her. Sometimes, just to have fun, I'll purposely start walking at an angle, pushing her over a bit…and it drives her bonkers. She's a very organized teen (that's why she's been working with me all week!), even when it comes to something as simple as walking through a mall…or a store.

Take Costco, for instance. We were walking down the aisles today and I need to go left. So, I started to curve to the left; only she didn't like that. So we have the following conversation:

B-boo: "Mommmm, walk straight!"

Mom: "I am walking straight. I needed to turn left. I'm curving."

B-boo: "You're curve isn't straight! Your making a swurvy curve instead of a smooth curve."

I never knew there was such a thing as a swurvy curve. Ah…she makes me laugh…and that brings me joy.

For more joy, visit Good, True and Beautiful.

New Seasons

Cayton Campground_0005
It's funny how time flies. One day they are babies, and the next, they are all grown up; in the blink of an eye.

Friday was my nephew's end of kindergarten program. It was cute; sitting there watching him sing…and refuse to sing…and then sing again. And watching him get his little kindergarten certificate.

As I sat there, I was reminded of the last time I attended a kindergarten program. It was 1993, and my oldest son was graduating from kindergarten. He'll be graduating colleg in a little over a year.

I sat there and tried not to cry. I do that easily these days. We have so many changes going on. After a year and a half of living with us, my niece and nephew will be going home. After homeschooling for 16 years, my youngest will be entering school in a few weeks. After being home for so long, I am starting a new job.

Seasons change, and we must change with them. Sometimes it isn't easy, but we look for the joy in it all.
