Can I Share?

Warning: this may turn into a rather long blog!

I am blessed. Not just with an amazingly awesome family, but with friends and a church that mean so much.

As some of you may know, I've had a rather rough year so far. Two months ago, I had a surgery that turned into a long battle. I became septic and have battled that, along with a wound that didn't want to heal and a strength that refused to come back. I went from the queen of energy to not being able to care for myself at all, let alone my family.

But, God has blessed us. Our friends & family were there with us in the hospital, going shopping for us, taking children where they needed to be, bringing meals into our home and getting our children out for a breather when needed. My children have stepped up; taking care of mom, instead of mom taking care of them. And my husband; words cannot express. All I can say is that our marriage has reached a new level! 🙂

A few weeks ago, Easter discussion began. Should we cancel our annual party this year? After much begging from me, we decided to move forward with it. 🙂 After being cooped up in a house for two months except for doctor's appointments, I needed my party!

Friday, my children really stepped up and gave the house a once over! It was wonderful to see them work together and get things done quickly!

Saturday, a couple of sweethearts came over to help with the cooking; which was considerably less since others had volunteered to bring things I usually make! B-boo also helped me put together the dozens of eggs for hiding and the Easter baskets for the next morning.

Tradition has us hiding baskets each year for the kids to find. We get up early and film and take pictures of the kids finding and then raiding, their Easter baskets. This year, hubby had to be at church by 7 am. And he wasn't coming home until shortly before the party started. And you know what? I think this was perhaps the biggest blessing of all. You see, my children weren't so worried about finding their baskets. They were more concerned with helping dad and mom get the little ones ready and going to church. And the little ones didn't complain at all about going to church before they found their baskets.

It wasn't even mentioned.

Not that tradition isn't important. But I will share what an amazing moment I had, when I realized my kids get it. They understand the real reason we celebrate Easter. They understand that while *tradition* is fun, there are just certain things that mean more. And so, we went to church and worshiped and celebrated. It was my first Sunday back, so B-boo kicked me out quickly before I could be caught up in the crowd. She is more like me every day.

And we came home, and they got to work setting up tables and doing the little things that had to wait until the last moment. And it was only after Dad got home that we quickly found our baskets; baskets that are steeped in tradition. The same baskets that Grandma had made for each of them when they were born; the same basket that my oldest son, for the 1st time in 22 years, was not here to receive.

And shortly after, our house was flooded. Flooded with friends that have been there for us for the past two months; for the past year; for the past several years.

We are blessed, indeed. And when we circled up outside for prayer before the feast, I looked around. I was overcome with emotion and tried so hard not to cry as my husband thanked everyone and then asked for the blessing. Our home was brimming; inside and out, with over 80 friends.

They were smiling, laughing, making memories. And it was amazing.

Someone came up to me at one point and commented, "You're not loved are you?"

Her point?

Our house was full. Full of His love; a love most definitely worth sharing!

Could This Be True!?

There are some things in life that every one must experience for themselves. Some things that you just have to experience; right?

Must have experiences that quickly come to mind are:

Chocolate; everyone should experience chocolate in their life.

Ice cream; another must!

Walking barefoot in the sand.

Skydiving! (I know some of you may disagree, but you obviously haven't tried it then!)

Motherhood. (Ok, I realize that cuts a lot of you out, too, but as a mother, I do have to include it!)

A hug.

A kiss.

A smile.

Hysterical laughter.

Falling in the snow.

Catching a snowflake on your tongue.

A rainbow.

Roasting a marshmallow by a campfire.

A smore.

Singing in the rain.

A full moon.

A falling star.

Freely dancing without a care in the world.

Spinning…and falling.

I know I'll think of a hundred more things after I post this, but I'm sure you get my point.

So imagine my surprise when we were watching a commercial and the "Sound of Music" came on and I started singing….

and my niece had no idea what it was! I explained to her that this was a must for our family. The Drama Queen nodded her head in agreement and handed me the movie immediately!

As I type this, the Princess is contentedly watching and humming along.

And the world will be set right again for yet another day!

He’s Unique!

And you gotta love him for it!

IMG_1186-2(rev 1)

The Smart One, that is.

He has the ability to crack you up.

He'll walk into a room, thrilled, because he's learned to do yet one more weird thing with his body.

I'm talking about him walking in to the room, so proud, because not only can he fold his tongue in half, now he's found some other weird way to roll it. It kind of looks like a bowl. I can't do it. He tried to teach me once; I thought I was going to suck my tongue down my throat and choke in the process!

He loves to run up while I try to hobble down the stairs and have me hold on to his shoulders so we can dance our way down in a conga line. Well, he dances, I hobble.

He loves to sing all of the "Free Credit Report.com" songs.

He's a huge fan of origami. I'm talking it's an obsession! And he's good at it! He's also good at Etch a Sketch.

He has his young cousin calling him the genius. His older brother is slightly bothered at how he just knows things.

He actually knows what DNA stands for; and can even spell it out!

He's amazing with nun-chucks. I don't know how he manages not to hurt himself!

Did I mention he cracks me up? Last night, B-boo was showing me her dance for dance try-outs at school. The Smart One wanted to show me his dance. I reminded him that he doesn't have a dance. He insisted he did. He was so insistent, I caved and told him to show me.

It's amazing how fast he can come up with something…and move his skinny little body in such a laughable way. Yeah, he had a dance. I was hysterical.

And he never stops. Well, except when he's asleep. And please don't wake him. He's NOT funny, when he's been woke up from his beauty sleep.

Just now, he walked into my room. He asked me to look at what he could do. And then…

he proceeded to stand in place and flop his arms back and forth like rubber bands trying to take flight…

because he wanted me to hear how funny his bones sounded when he does that because they can pop.

And then, he lies down on the bed and crawls under a blanket and moves really, really fast; because he wants to see if he can create sparks from electricity.

You see, his brain never stops working. He's always trying to come up with some new invention. He doesn't take "no" for an answer. And he rises to the challenge. For instance, he was once offered $20 by his oldest brother if he could lick his elbow. The Good-Looking One thought it would be funny watching him try, because he knew it was impossible.

He was wrong. The Smart One took the twenty bucks!

Yes, he is most definitely unique.

Fun Times

It's been six weeks since my surgery and this madness started. The most maddening part is still having to be on bed rest (couch rest) when my brain is back to functioning!

And it is great friends, young and old alike who help me to get through it.

Phone calls are great.

Playing hearts with *my girls* are even better!

Winning even better! LOL…does that make me shallow?

And chocolate eclairs.

And the unexpected blessing of a meal for my family.

And friends that miss me and show up on a Wednesday night with ice cream and cookies and a long chat.

These are some of my *JOY* this week!

And it is family, who are so sweet. Bible study in the morning with the Smart One.

Doing B-boo's hair for dance try-outs.

The Princess allowing me to comb through her hair and get the tangles out, because she asked me to.

Nice weather; cuddles, chats, and giggles.

These are the things that bring me joy this week!

Happy Birthday to my favorite Ox!

IMG_4268(rev 1)

This is the Drama Queen and her cousin. I like to call him an Ox. He is only six months older than she is, yet he is HUGE! These two crack us up. They think it's dumb that cousins can't marry. So, they have plans to be best pals for life. He'll be a famous football player and go to the Superbowl. She'll be a pop-star and sing during his half-time game. They'll have a house together. A big house. There is not a day that goes by when she doesn't beg me to let her go play with her cousin. And heaven forbid if he ignores her for her older brother; the bigger cousin that he adores. Life on earth stops as we know it!

Anyway, today he is officially in double digits.

Happy Birthday! We love you!
